Instruction of biological sample collection for the analysis
Attention! Individuals who are put through the analysis should not consume any meal or drinks within two hours before the collection of biological sample.
Person collecting biological material from oneself and from other individuals participating in the analysis should wear disposable gloves. It prevents collected material from contamination with own DNA.
After taking out a swab stick from wrapping, it should be kept away from any non-sterile surface. The ending should not be touched either during or after the collection of material. It would be emphasised that swab stick cannot be contaminated with DNA of person collecting the sample.
Swab sticks and envelopes are appropriately marked, therefore it is important to place swab sticks in suitable envelopes.
Procedure of collection of biological materal for DNA analysis:
1. In order to collect biological sample, it is necessary to intensively rub inner side of a cheek of individual for about 10 seconds to collect as much of DNA as possible.
2. Collection of a swab from a cheek should be done twice for each individual participating in the analysis using both swab sticks. Biological material from both swab sticks is analysed by two teams of geneticists, and obtained outcomes of analyisis are compared.
3. Swab stick with collected material should be placed in airy space for about 3-4 hours in order to get dry. It is important that the cotton ending of a swab stick should be kept away from any non-sterile surface. Only then the collected material can be analysed properly. Fully dry swab from a cheek may be stored for long time at room temperature.
4. It should be emphasised that each sample should be placed in appropriately marked envelope. After drying period, swab sticks should be placed in appropriate envelopes, while envelopes should be sealed and sent back to the laboratory.
